The outset of any complex collaboration requires a good understanding of the program, time, budget, resources, and expected outcomes. It also requires some important decision-making that entering the collaborative is in the best interests of the organization. The team at Resolution Matters and Praxis (RMI/Praxis) work together with your leadership team to help weigh the upstream and downstream impacts of various scenarios.
Each entity engaging in the collaborative shows up at the table with a set of positions, wants, and needs. It is important that the leadership negotiating team spend some upfront time understanding how to best express their interests, concerns, needs for this collaborative in the context of all the other entities at the table and those not at the table.
Each entity will provide a representative to serve on the Leadership Team who will help steward and serve as fiduciaries over the collaborative. The Leadership Team will be responsible for setting the schedule, budget, workgroup concept areas, and logistics. Resolution Matters will take the lead with facilitating and integrating the agreements and plans developed through this initial work.
This effort entails forming the collaborative, the first gathering all the participants, and developing the framework to sustain the demands and challenges facing any collaborative. The RMI/Praxis Team will be working side-by-side with the Leadership Team and the participants to make each session productive exchanges of information and moving the body towards resolution.
in this segment the formation, budget, schedule, and broad objectives for the workgroups are articulated and shared with the technical teams. The workgroups will work within this guidance and commence its efforts to put together recommendations and strategies for resolution.
not necessarily in this order the Leadership Team and the full collaborative body will explore the role, if any, that confidentiality plays in each of the project workspaces. For example, in some cases the Leadership Team might want and expect confidentiality in their discussions and the same for the workgroups. While the larger collaborative sessions might be open meetings and shared with the press through a joint statement of the leadership team. This is all shaped and decided in real time based on the demands and the needs of the parties at the time.
The RMI/Praxis Team will work with each program team to establish a joint purpose and mission. This will help govern and shape the direction of the overall collaborative.
May serve on workgroups and address either the Leadership Team or the full collaborative depending on the negotiating dynamics at the time. The benefits of independent neutral experts are that they are on the team to raise up the possibility of a third side. The third side is defined another perspective not being seen or explored by the body. This approach distinguishes itself from traditional forums where we experience dueling experts who often perpetuate the division in sides and the conflict.
these roles all carry a certain set of responsibilities throughout the collaborative program and beyond. RMI/Praxis Team uses a workbook approach to track and monitor the results of the project which includes who is in what role throughout.
this workgroup is key in overseeing the budget of the collaborative and providing economic models showing the impacts of the possible workgroup proposed outcomes.
at various key stages of the collaborative program, the technical and economic workgroups share updates with the Leadership Team. The Leadership Team discerns the key facts and data for discussion before the full collaborative body.
The workgroups and Leadership Team present findings and issues for deliberation amongst the full collaborative. In turn the full collaborative is given the opportunity to present its views, concerns, and agreements, based on the preliminary reporting.
based on these inputs the Leadership who now becoming the Negotiating Team begins providing a framework to help narrow the perspectives and possible outcome alternatives.
the RMI/Praxis Team works closely with the Leadership/Negotiating Team to return to their interests, concerns, needs, and figuring out how to honor and respect the other perspectives at the table while crafting a consensus-based approach to settlement.
There may be a cycle of information exchanged between Workgroups, the Leadership/Negotiating Team and the full collaborative.
